Austin Pow Wow

Well, as I prepare for my first Pow Wow ever, I find out just how unprepared I am. I’ve attended six, maybe seven, Chickasaw Tribal meetings, selling books under a tent in Tishomingo. But tomorrow morning, I’ll be selling to the general public in Austin, Texas, at one of the biggest Pow Wows in the state. It’s almost like coming full circle in a small way, as I attended a couple of Austin Pow Wows when my husband, Indian danced with local friends that he’d met through his Order of the Arrow experiences in Boy Scouts.

I’m excited to be back here, but a little nervous to attend as a vendor. I have a new tent—since my youngest hatchling turned my last one into a lean-to at a soccer game—and a new banner, AND a new book.

I’m looking forward to seeing how it goes. Thankfully, we’re supposed to be blessed with a beautiful fall day with early fall temps. So, if you’re in the neighborhood, come on by! It will be at the Travis County Expo Center, November 22nd from 9-9. It will be an amazing experience with lots of Native dancing, native fare, and me! Not to mention it’s co-sponsored by the Chickasaw Nation. See you there! God bless… xxo mag
